The trunk museum

English Barrel Top

image2

I've named this an English Barrel Top because (turned on it's side) the top has the shape of a barrel.

Small Silver Victorian

image3

Nicknamed the "Small Silver Victorian" because that is all I knew about the trunk when I acquired it.

Victorian Barrel Top

Someone had applied casters on this trunk before I acquired it.  I have not removed the casters to date as it makes it easy to roll it around, ha!

Doll Trunk

image5

This is a picture of the doll trunk as I received delivery of it back in 1992.  I have since restored the exterior only.   This little cutey was a bucket of rust and took a lot of "TLC" to save it.  See my before & after restorations.

Gray Metal Round Top

image6

My husband brought this home to me one day.  He found it at a yard sale many years ago and paid $5 for it.  I have nicknamed it the "Denver" trunk and can't remember why, ha!

The Big Black Trunk

image7

This old flat top trunk was made by Meek.  It has that nasty black vulcanized rubber exterior and someone had decorated it to house their Halloween costumes.  I wanted it because it had a nice brass lock on it.

More old trunks

The Red Star Line

image8

First nicknamed by me as "The Red Star Line" because of baggage tags on it.. and later I was able to trace the ownership of the trunk by the initials on the side, "KDL"  See my trunk genealogy for the Leggett trunk!

Paper Covered Flat Top

image9

This was a "bottom of the line" trunk in it's day, used for packing goods, such as dishes and linens.  I use it to store my trunk hardware.

Men's Wardrobe

image10

This is a pretty fascinating old trunk.  Known as a Men's Wardrobe trunk, it literally has a "closet" that folds out with wooden hangers on a rack.

Bureau Trunk

image11

I originally nicknamed this a "Bureau Trunk" but it would probably be best described as a theatrical trunk, one used by actors or clowns in a circus.. has drawers etc.

The Longshore Trunk

image12

Included this trunk in the museum as research indicates it was made in Sacramento, California sometime during the years of 1850 - 1912.

Handmade Trunk

image13

This is a pretty fascinating old trunk.. obviously handmade.  Has a barrel key lock on it and rope for handles.  I keep my old china in it.  Was probably more suitable as a tool chest in it's day.
