History of a Trunk

On rare occasions, previous ownership and other information about an antique trunk can be determined by pieces of evidence on the trunk that have survived over 100 years.

Unless you own an antique trunk that has been carefully preserved and handed down from generation to generation or have seen one in a museum that has been determined to have been owned by a famous person, seldom is it possible to know much about an old trunk.

Occasionally, an old antique trunk will provide information about it’s history.. Who the owner may have been or where the trunk itself has been, even evidence of where, when and by whom the trunk was made.  This gives the trunk “provenance” and can possibly

add to its value.

I have combined my trunk restoration hobby with my passion for genealogy and have been fortunate enough to identify ownership and history on several of the trunks that have come into my possession over the years.
